The East Gippsland Biathlon Club was established in 2015 and has been instrumental in producing many successful National Team Biathletes who have represented Australia at National Championships, Youth Olympics, IBU Cup and on World Cup. EGBC is affiliated with Biathlon Australia (BA) which is the recognised National Federation recognised by AusSport and the Australian Olympic Committee. BA regained NF recognition in 2025.

EGBC is a registered, not for profit, Snowsports Club with Snowsports insurance though Snow Australia and a business operating licence with Hotham Resort Management Board (RMB). This means all membership funds goes back into the club and programs.

Biathlon is a Winter Olympic sport consisting of XC Skiing and .22 rifle marksmanship. BA is affiliated with the International Biathlon Union (IBU), which is the responsible international governing body. EGBC provides opportunities for all ages, levels and abilities to participate in both summer and winter biathlons. We provide adaptive active recreation biathlon programs using laser simulation systems at Hotham and across Victoria to develop biathlon specific skills, balance, stamina, coordination.

EGBC supports athletes of all levels and ‘All Abilities’ from Melbourne to Mallacoota and interstate including from Sydney and Canberra. EGBC has secured support from Sport and Recreation Victoria to be a provider of programs for athletes of ‘All Abilities’. Our Biathlon 4 All Abilities (B4AA) program is embedded and integrated within all East Gippsland Biathlon Club’s (EGBC) participation, development and high-performance programs to provide a pathway from participation to international competitions for para athletes and persons of ‘All Abilities’.

EGBC is based out of Marlo, in far East Gippsland, and operates out of Mt. Hotham over the Australian winter season. Mt. Hotham is the only location in Australia where it is possible to train and compete Biathlon on snow.

Excellence and high performance underpins the Club’s drive to support athletes to realise opportunities to represent Australia internationally in the sport. EGBC strives to support its members to achieve success in one of the toughest endurance sports in the world and the most watched winter sport in Europe

The Club strives to develop community connectedness through development programs and supporting athletes of All Abilities. All abilities includes, however is not limited to, the following areas: • Physical Disabilities • Amputees from single arm or leg to double limb amputees • Blind skiers • Mental health • Disengaged Secondary School Students – remote athletes – Talent Identified athletes – Indigenous athletes.

EGBC is offering a number of Snowsports Scholarships to a range of athletes to help increase the capacity of members including in the following areas:

  • Remote and Isolated; Some of our members live in remote areas and are isolated. We can provide scholarships to our remote and isolated high performance members.
  • High Performance; Some of our members have gone onto represent Australia internationally at IBU Cup and World Cup. We endeavour to look to continue to support them as they continue to inspire and be mentors and ambassadors for our younger members.
  • Youth Retention; the 2024 Youth Olympic Team which consisted of Females – Ava McCann, Bridget Harvey, Alesandra Sydun-West, Males – Phoenix Sparke, Edward Bedak-Woodhouse and Matthew Wilby all trained and developed through EGBC programs in pursuit of the WYOGs. We understand that it is really hard for these athletes to stay connected to the sport, so we have potential to offer scholarships to our past Youth Olympians to provide them with the support and structure they need to stay in the sport.
  • Talented Identification Scholarship – we are committed to continuing to identify athletic talent, especially those that also have a background in Snowsports and can provide them with a scholarship to have a go at training on a pathway in the sport of Biathlon
  • Para National and Development Team – Through our B4AA program we offer scholarships to all Para National team and guides and Development team and potential talent or those who want to have a go at the sport; please apply for a scholarship.
